WHO WE ARE

MDMO brings together officially designated Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs) for the purpose of:

  1. Enhancing their ability to effectively market and develop tourism in all Maryland localities.

  2. Fostering awareness about the importance of the travel industry to the economy of the State.

What is a Destination Marketing Organization (DMO)?  A DMO is the principal organization responsible for leadership in the development and marketing of the tourism industry within their jurisdiction.  The Maryland Tourism Development Board has authorized one DMO per 23 Maryland Counties, Baltimore City and Ocean City.

190,660 MARYLANDERS ARE EMPLOYED BY THE TOURISM INDUSTRY

THE MARYLAND TOURISM INDUSTRY IS STRONG WITH VISITORS SPENDING $20.5 BILLION

TOURISM TRANSACTIONS GENERATE $2.4 BILLION IN STATE AND LOCAL TAXES

Visitor spending in Maryland funds government priorities and citizen services, including transportation, education, and public safety.  Every dollar spent on tourism results in an increase in state and local tax revenue, jobs, and economic impact.

Every household would pay $1,027 more if not for the state and local taxes generated by tourism.

Maryland’s Destination Marketing Organizations leverage the state’s investment in tourism marketing with municipal, county, and private partnership funds.
